Just outside the small village of Tourliac, the house sits on a hill, overlooking two large lakes on the Dordogne/Lot-et-Garonne Border. With Villereal, Beaumont du Perigord and Monpazier all very close by, you can enjoy all the culture and attractions the region is famous for, whilst having a wonderfully peaceful, private countryside location to come home to.
Our unique location benefits from uninterrupted, panoramic views over unspoilt French nature reserves, with clear views of the sunrise and sunset on either side.
The house is set in 2 acres of private south-facing land, surrounded by mature trees, offering complete privacy and tranquility.
Both lakes are easily accessed from the house and provide exceptionally beautiful country walks, and most days - even in summer - you will have them all to yourself.
Built around 1912, the original house was divided into two; a small cottage with a barn attached. The building is now split in to three sections, with the barn now comprised of two one bedroom gîtes, ‘Le Brayssou’ and ‘La Ganne’. The third section is the original cottage, which is our home.
With no prior building experience, we both spent the last year lovingly renovating and restoring the property ourselves - in its entirety - with the perfect couples’ retreat in mind.
Both houses have been designed to maintain the original quality of the stone building while providing a contemporary twist. We have intentionally juxtaposed modern and rustic elements to create a charming, imaginative space. Open plan living set in the context of an old French stone house provides a cosy, romantic home, which we think is perfect for a couples’ stay in France.
Each house has 1 bedroom, with en-suite, an open plan downstairs living space including full kitchen, dining and living area, and a covered outdoor terrace for outdoor dining and relaxing. We have a 30x15 foot pool which overlooks the lake to the east, which is for the exclusive use of our guests.
We have a large vegetable garden which - depending on what is in season - guests are welcome to use fresh produce from for a small donation. We are currently growing potatoes, four varieties of tomatoes, courgettes, garlic, onions, lettuce and carrots!
On the property is also a mobile home which sleeps up to 6. For a family stay (two adult couples with up to 6 children in the group) we suggest booking both gîtes for the adults and the mobile home for the children. The adults can enjoy a wonderful, romantic retreat while the kids get to have fun sleeping over in the large mobile home.
Tourliac is less than 10 minutes away from not one, but three historic bastide towns; Monpazier, Beaumont-du-Périgord and Villeréal. All offer fantastic food, markets, history and culture. The night markets are a great way to enjoy all of these things together in the summer season.
Just outside Monpazier is the ‘stone giant’ Chateau de Biron; an enchanting Chateau with almost a thousand years of history to explore. The region has a number of prehistoric cave sites to visit, rivers to canoe and of course hundreds of vineyards that tourists from the world over come to enjoy.
